Eye Miniature or Lover's Eye
(18th and 19th Centuries )
In the early 19th century, eye portraits (sometimes called "Lover's Eyes") were valued as gifts expressing affection. They were a private bond between the donor and the recipient, the only individual likely to be ware of the subject's idenity.
