Flask with Scenes of Plowing
(China )
The decoration of this large flask demonstrates a mix of Chinese and European artistic effects in the use of cobalt pigment on later Chinese ceramics. The cobalt pigments here are applied in varied shades of subdued blue, softly brushed on the receding sky and speckled on the fields. Textures abound with the use of thin brush strokes, patches of wet pigment, splattering, or dragging pigment.
