Description Conservation Provenance Credit
Description Bust-length portrait of a young man with brown hair, wearing a black coat, white vest, high white collar and white stock. Henry Colton Shumway studied in New York City at the National Academy of Design. By 1831 he had established himself as a miniature painter and exhibited frequently at the Academy. He was elected an Associate in 1831 and an Academician in 1832. He ended his career coloring photographic portraits.
