Fuchi with Bamboo and Plums

Description Provenance Inscription Credit
Description The fuchi is decorated with bamboo on the front and plum blossoms on the reverse. It may have originally been paired with a kashira depicting pine trees, because those three plants are known as the three friends of winter. This is part of a mounted set.
Provenance Henry Walters, Baltimore [date and mode of acquistion unknown]; Walters Art Museum, 1931, by bequest.
Inscriptions [Mark] Assembly mark (?) in ink inside fuchi: イ上ツキ; [Transliteration] i jyô tsu ki
