Description
The carved decoration known as "linen fold" is typical for the period and indeed looks like folded light-weight cloth.

The knobs at the sides can be turned to release the back panel so that it can swing down to be used as a table. Space in homes around 1500 was often limited and furniture sparse, so that the latter often had to serve multiple purposes. Parts have been replaced.
