Intaglio with Eros on a Gryllus Set in a Ring
Eros is depicted on this intaglio holding a whip in his left hand and riding a gryllus made up of the head of a horse, a torso formed from a man’s head, hindquarters formed from a ram’s head holding an ear of corn, and a foreleg formed from a plough. A hare jumps from the gryllus’s foreleg towards its mouth. Below is a serpent, on the left, and an eagle with a hare in its claws.
