Tablet Case with Profile Bust of George Washington Surrounded by 13 Stars
This 18th-century tablet case features the head of George Washington surrounded by stars, attesting to the political enthusiasms of its original owner, identified only by the monogram "GH" on the back. Images relating to the American War of Independence (1775-83) were popular in France during the years before the French Revolution (1789-99), and small luxury objects like this case were also produced for export to the new American Republic.
