Description
This graceful and dignified representation of the Virgin and Child is a fine example of the continued influence of the glazed terracotta religious sculpture created in the early 15th century by Luca della Robbia (1399/1400-1482) and continued into the 16th century by Santi Buglioni's uncle, Benedetto (1459/60-1521), who covertly obtained the secrets of Luca's glazing technique. The Buglioni were among a small group of masters in Florence who continued to work creatively in the technique well into the 1500s. The heads and surfaces have been repaired.
