Seated Woman
The body of this seated figure is flat and almost rectangular; the long garment may have been painted (traces of red may be visible on the upper torso), but the only details are the modeled arms and feet and the elaborate neckline or necklace with two large discs connected by a raised arc with a smaller disc at the center. The figure’s face appears to be mold made, and the eyes have traces of black paint, as does the long hair. She wears a crown that seems to resemble the “polos” crowns seen on the contemporary but much more abstract bird-faced terracotta figures (compare 48.1922 and 48.1923). The hair is painted on the back of the head as well, but the back of the figure is otherwise plain and undecorated, with two sections of clay formed into pegs in order to support the seated figure.
