Virgin and Child
(Baroque Europe )
This crudely carved yet striking Virgin and Child has a receptable carved out in the back for a relic. The style suggests it may have been made in a Spanish colony, possibly in the New World. Cleaning in 2020 has revealed much more ornamentation than just the star on the Virgin's shoulder.
