Description Schussele, a native of Alsace, eastern France, completed his training in Paris under Adolphe Yvon (see Yvon's "Portrait of Napoleon III" (Walters 37.95)). An accomplished technician, Schussele immigrated to America in 1848 and settled in Philadelphia, where he pursued a successful career as a history painter and illustrator.
