Lekythos with Seated and Standing Figures
(Ancient Greece )
This marble funerary vase is carved in relief and depicts a seated woman, identified as Ada by the inscription above her head, and a standing man identified by an inscription as Mikon from Sigeion. Ada and Mikon clasp hands in a gesture of "dexiosis"--a final farewell. There is a weathered stencil above and below the scene, and on the shoulder; and there are traces of polychromy. The neck and base are broken off.
