Tsuba with Scrollwork Design

Description This tsuba is decorated with a design of incised scrollwork. The body of the tsuba is composed of alternating layers of copper and a copper alloy with gold. This created bands of color that can be seen on the edge and within the incisions. Both secondary holes have been plugged in gold.
Provenance Henry Walters, Baltimore [date and mode of acquisition unknown]; Walters Art Museum, 1931, by bequest.
