The Hindu Goddess Devi

Shiva's wife, sometimes known as Devi, here carries the attributes of her brother Vishnu, to whom the contemporary temple of Angkor Wat was dedicated. They include a disk (upper right), a ball (lower right; perhaps symbolizing the earth), a conch shell (upper left), and a club (lower left; now broken, its lower end was once attached to the pedestal). The emphasis on horizontal elements, the taut skin, and the sharply defined textures are characteristic of the classical Cambodian style.
