Head of a Bodhisattva or Donor Prince
(India, Nepal, and Tibet)
This terracotta head of a male figure has an elaborate head adornment. Atop a jeweled circlet across the hairline, rests what appears to be a headdress made of wrapped fabric passing through a central loop. The figure depicted here likely represents either a bodhisattva (a being who has a reached the stage where enlightenment may be achieved but has chosen to remain within the setting of society as a teacher to others) or alternatively a donor, likely a prince.
