Finial with Two Felines

Iranian (Artist)
10th-8th century BCE (Iron Age)
lost-wax-cast bronze
(Ancient Near East )

Finials for ceremonial standards and bridle bits with animal forms are characteristic of the metalwork produced by the hunter societies of Luristan ca. the 10th-8th century BCE. The life of the hunter is built around animals, as food, transportation, and the embodiment of the unfathomable forces of nature.
