Kozuka with Heian Period Courtier
(Japanese Military Armor)
At the left, a Heian period courtier is shown leaning again an armrest. At the right is a curtain. Women in the Heian period were separated from men by means of curtains or blinds, so this curtain implies the presence of a woman behind it. The gold clouds along the top mimic clouds in illustrated handscrolls.
