Kataoka Gado II as the general Kusunoki Masatsura (center), a 14th-century supporter of the opposition imperial court, here detects the forces of black magic arrayed against him. A familiar-looking woman Nakamura Daikichi III as Ben no Naishi comes to call (right), together with a member of the palace work crew (left) Arashi Rikaku II as the fox-Matagoro. When Kusunoki tosses him a cup, this man moves forward, leaving in the snow the footprints of a fox. Subsequently both visitors revert to foxes and dance around Kusunoki.
