Fuchi with Eibsu's Fishing Basket

Hamano Shôzui (Japanese, 1696-1769) (Artist)
1696-1769 (Edo)
shibuichi with red lacquer
(Japanese Military Armor)

The fuchi is carved to look like the rim of a fisherman's basket. A rod and fly are on the side of the basket. Because this is paired with a rice bale, it is a reference to the god of good fortune, Ebisu. The rice bale is on the kashira Walters 51.999.
