Watch for the Turkish market with formal designs

Marwick Markham (Artist)
1812-1813
gold, enamel
(18th and 19th Centuries )

The case of this watch is gold, enameled "en plein." It was likely made for the Turkish market: the numerals on the dial are in Turkish characters. The date stamp is "U" for 1815. The maker was probably Thomas Perigal, the last of a family of well known clockmakers, under the name of the celebrated Markwick Markham who died in 1760.

Inscription

[Name and location] On dial: Markwick Markham, Perigal London;
[Name, location and number] On backplate: Markwick Markham, London, 23412
