Plaque with the Resurrection of Christ
(Baroque Europe )
Christ appears to explode from the open sarcophagus, sending the sleeping guards reeling. The flamboyance of the style is almost too ambitious for so small a plaque. Given the height of the relief and the degree of undercutting behind the swirling drapery, this plaque would not have been set into a cabinet or casket but was almost surely an independent work of art.
