Vase with Autumn Flowers and Elephant Handles
(Japan and Korea )
Satsuma ware has a distinctive ivory-colored ground and finely crackled transparent glaze. Most Satsuma wares were produced for export, and for this reason were decorated with images and subjects from Japanese art and culture that appealed to foreign tastes, including pagodas, flowers, birds, and figures wearing kimonos.
