Fuchi with Foxes

Description Provenance Inscription Credit
Description Two foxes are shown near a cluster of chrysanthemums. The one on the right holds a lit torch. This is a reference to fox-fire ("kitsune-bi"), which foxes were said to generate. The fuchi is part of a mounted set.
Provenance Henry Walters, Baltimore [date and mode of acquisition unknown]; Walters Art Museum, 1931, by bequest.
