Fuchi with Gentleman Bowing

Description Provenance Inscription Credit
Description The fuchi is in the shape of a seated gentleman bowing. His mostly bald head is in the center and he holds a fan in his right hand. His formal kimono has crests on the shoulders and the back. This is part of a mounted set. Because the handle to which this is attached depicts masks, the gentleman on the fuchi may be a performer.
Provenance William T. / Henry Walters Collection, Baltimore [date and mode of acquisition unknown]; Walters Art Museum, 1931, by bequest.
