Stater of Aspendus
Obverse: Two wrestlers grappling. Reverse: Clothed slinger, right; triskeles (3-legged symbol) to right; Π between legs (control mark); square beaded border.
The inscription gives the name of the city in the local Pamphylian dialect of Greek (in the adjectival form), which preserves the archaic digamma (F), which has evolved into the Π/P in the Attic (and English) versions of the name.
