Description
A peasant standing on a heavily laden, four-wheeled cart, stares forlornly across the empty landscape. The cart, drawn by a troika of horses, appears to be thoroughly mired in mud. In this barren scene with its glowering sky and leaden atmosphere, the artist conveys a remarkable sense of desolation.
