Description
This comb and Walters 71.459 are designed on the same pattern: a single row of teeth surmounted by a bilaterally symmetrical row of carved figures. On both, warriors and lions flank opposed heads of eagles, which support a heraldic crown. In this comb, the lion, unicorn and inscriptions seen in Walters 71.459 are replaced by rondels cut into the surface; these may have been intended to hold additional ornamentation.
