Vase with Landscape and Du Mu's Poem
(China )
The poem included on this vase was composed by the poet and essayist Du Mu (803–852) and complements the accompanying landscape scene. Chinese scholars favored objects containing both painting and text. The different ways that the image and the word relate to each other can be a source of delight and play for the scholar.
