Head of a Saint
16th century
fresco with secco
This elderly saint with a long twisted beard and covered head is depicted frontally, directly confronting the viewer. His rich yellow halo adds to the impressiveness of his demeanor. He likely would have been accompanied originally by additional saints in the context of a church fresco.
