Landscape with Canal
(18th and 19th Centuries )
A couple of men on horseback ride along the towpath of a waterway. Silhouetted against the horizon are two windmills, ubiquitous in Maris' landscapes. The expansive, overcast sky is characteristic of the artist's late works.
