Side Table
(Baroque Europe )
This table, probably made for a palace in Venice or Florence, exemplifies the 18th-century taste for rich ornaments and sumptuous materials. Carved of wood, the legs twist and curve in continuous organic shapes and have winged female figures that turn into plant-like ornaments. Side tables were often used to display luxury items, such as statuettes and timepieces.
