Tsuba with a Crane Soaring over Waves

Ishiguro Masayoshi I (Japanese, 1775-1862) (Artist)

silver and gold
(Japanese Military Armor)

A crane soars along the upper right edge of this small tsuba, over waves at the bottom left. The motif of waves continues to the back. Cranes are symbols of longevity.
