Description Provenance Inscription Credit
Description A self-taught artist, Augustin established his reputation as a portrait miniaturist by exhibiting works at the Paris Salon. A number of artists soon began to list themselves as his pupils. Members of the imperial family, and, after Napoleon's fall, the Bourbon monarchs were among his sitters.
Provenance Henry Walters, Baltimore [date and mode of acquisition unknown]; Walters Art Museum, 1931, by bequest.
