Tsuba with Openwork Scroll and Dragon
early 19th century (late Edo)
This openwork scroll design includes a dragon that moves within the scrollwork. The left half of the tsuba is lightly incised, which may be the preparation to cut that side like the right. This style is called "Nanban," because it derived from foreign influences.
