Fight Over the Breeches
In this comical painting, a woman and man grapple over a pair of breeches, which are grasped in the man's left hand. He brandishes a club in his right hand, trying to keep the breeches away from the woman. With her left hand she hits the man in the face, and in her right she holds a rope. Both figures are dressed in Elizabethan dress, the woman in a ruff collar, dress, and cap and the man in a feathered hat and a striped shirt with ruffled sleeves.
