Hakkenden daisan
(Japan and Korea )
Inuyama Dosetsu Tadatomo raises his famous sword, named "Murasame," to invoke magic powers, unaware that he is being spied on. Inuyama is one of the eight heroes of the popular novel "Hakkenden," which was published in installments from 1814 to 1841. Inuyama is a fire-magic adept and is usually depicted in scenes with flames or smoke. In this print, the artist has animated the hem of Inuyama's red and orange robe, suggesting flames.
