Standing Bodhisattva (Avalokitesvara or Maitreya)
(Southeast Asia )
The small scale of this standing image of solid cast leaded high-tin bronze allowed a metal worker to easily cast it as one solid piece. It appears as if the figure’s left hand once held a flask, which is an attribute of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. Otherwise, the figure is likely to be Maitreya. He is the Buddha of the Future and is also frequently depicted as a bodhisattva.
