At the right of the composition, two herons are shown standing beneath reeds. Incised lines on the left indicate water. This is part of a mounted set.

[Date] 元治元歳甲子仲夏; [Transliteration] Genji gentoshi kinoe ne, chûka; [Translation] first year of Genji (1864), year of the rat, 5th month; [Signature] 一柳斎正光製; [Transliteration] Ichiryûsai Masamitsu sei; [Translation] Made by Ichiryûsai Masamitsu
