Marriage Ring
6th century (Late Antique)
The hoop and circular bezel of this gold ring are edged with beads. The motif of the clasped hands, signifying love, betrothal, and marriage, was first introduced in the Roman period and remained a popular symbol until the 19th century. These rings are also called "fede rings," named after the Italian term for good faith and belief.
