Ragini Chaiti
(India, Nepal, and Tibet)
The musical "mode" ("raga, ragini") is a melody reduced to its basic elements. Modes were classified and given names, and sets of paintings with the same names were produced with the mode represented by a woman. Here the mode is "chaiti," which is sung in the late afternoon.
