Jug
(Baroque Europe )
A jug such as this with a flat spherical shape set on a hollow pedestal base like a drinking flask may be called in German a "Flachkrug," (flat jug). The cobalt blue glaze--an innovation of the Raeren workshops in the 1540s--brings out the distinctive incised pattern of foliage linked by the stems, also characteristic of Raeren. The petaled flower or star motif was very popular for round vessels.
