Description Exhibitions Provenance Inscription Credit
Description The meticulously observed physique of this greyhound, from his boney back and tail to his sinuous legs and neck, reveals Barye's in-depth knowledge of animal anatomy.
  • The Works of Antoine-Louis Barye. American Art Gallery (New York), New York. 1889-1890.
  • Barye Sculpture and Drawings. American Federation of Arts, New York. 1959-1960.
  • From Rye to Raphael: The Walters Story. The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore. 2014-2016.
Provenance Purchased by William T. Walters, Baltimore, before 1886 (?) [1]; inherited by Henry Walters, Baltimore, 1894; by bequest to Walters Art Museum, 1931. [1] George A. Lucas agenda for 30 March 1886 states that he had a version of "Levrette rapportant Lievre" cast by Montaignac from "WTWs [William T. Walters] and his models." This could imply that this bronze was in William T. Walters possession by 1886.
