Pair of Altar Candlesticks

Description Provenance Credit
Description Both of these candlesticks have three feet formed like winged dragons. In between them, human figures with outstretched arms stand on grotesque heads amidst vine trellises. At the top, small bird-like creatures support the wax pan. The intricate, woven style of this candlestick was widely popular in Belgian, German and English regions.
Provenance Henri de Lannoy (?), Paris; Collection Dietz-Coblenz; Henri Daguerre, Paris; Henry Walters, Baltimore, 1925, by purchase; Walters Art Museum, 1931, by bequest.
