Kozuka with Horse under a Cherry Tree

Takahashi Kiyotsugu (Japanese, died 1894) (Artist)
2nd half 19th century (late Edo-Meiji)
gold, shakudo, steel
(Japanese Military Armor)

A horse is depicted standing beneath a cherry tree in full bloom. This illustration refers to a Chinese poem about a horse pawing fallen cherry blossoms, which restored their fragrance. This is part of a mounted set, all decorated with the same motif.
