Framed Plaque with the Lamentation of Christ
The subject of Christ’s followers grieving over his death was popular for images of private devotion: it encouraged the viewer to join in the emotional experience. The features of the frame—black with small ornaments in silver—are consistent with a dating to about the same period as the plaque. Therefore, this presentation gives an idea of how other such plaques might originally have been hung, in a bedroom, for example.
