Description This restored, illuminated frontispiece from Walters manuscript W.563 was probably once part of a double-page composition. It bears a central medallion with pendants flanked by 4 smaller roundels. Notes in Persian and Arabic concerning the recitation of some Qur'anic passages are inscribed all over the page.
Provenance Sultan 'Uthman Khan [date and mode of acquisition unknown] [erased bequest (waqf) statement and stamp on fol. 3a]; Sultan Bayezid II [date and mode of acquisition unknown] [seal on fol. 8a]; Dikran Kelekian, New York and Paris [date and mode of acquisition unknown]; Henry Walters, Baltimore [date of acquisition unknown] by purchase; Walters Art Museum, 1931, by bequest.
