Tsuba with Mounted Warrior in the Rain
(Japanese Military Armor)
At the right of the tsuba is a mounted warrior carrying an umbrella. His horse's trimmings are made of gold. Behind his back, the small face of a passenger can be seen. Incised diagonal lines indicate rain. On the reverse, a peasant in a straw hat and straw rain coat walks away from the horse. This design may be a reference to a historical story.
