Tea Glass Holder

Russian (Artist)
ca. 1900
silver gilding, plique-à-jour, filigree and painted enamel
(18th and 19th Centuries )

An abstract design in red, blue, pink, turquoise, and white plique-à-jour enamel appears on the bases of the two holders. One of the holders (44.984.2) has its original glass container which is circumscribed by an etched band of flowers and birds. The holders are decorated with large blossoms in white, red, turquoise, and blue blossoms in raised filigree over a stippled ground. Additional motifs include the leaves and tendrils in blue, foiled red, and white. Around the rim is a row of green circles.
