Kick In The Doorway
Lugo asks us to meditate on the life of Sybby Grant, an enslaved woman who worked in 1 West Mount Vernon Place, Baltimore at the time of the Civil War. As no likenesses of Grant have yet come to light, with these tiles Lugo imagines her appearance, giving her the visibility she lacked while below stairs, preparing meals to be enjoyed by others.
