Book Cover with the Seven Jewels
(India, Nepal, and Tibet)
Every successful and righteous ruler, it was said, has a set of seven "jewels." They are: the elephant (that is, an army's elephant brigade); above it, the wheel (here signifying the spread of Buddhism); the general; the minister; the queen; the horse (that is, the cavalry); and, above it, the gem (here referring to the Buddhist triple gem of the Buddha, the teaching, and the monkhood).
